The Operations Bureau is responsible for all patrol and detective functions for the Sheriff’s Office and is overseen by the Operations Lieutenant. The patrol division is responsible for responding to calls for service 24 hours per day, 7 days per week in all of the unincorporated areas of Montezuma County which total approximately 2000 square miles. They are also responsible for handling calls in the contract town of Dolores and responding to non-native calls at the Ute Mountain Casino. Due to the passage of the Law Enforcement Authority Mill Levy we will be adding five additional patrol deputies starting January of 2008. This increase in staff will allow the patrol division twenty-two deputies with four deputies assigned to the detectives’ division and one deputy to the 22nd Judicial Drug Task Force. The patrol deputies generally respond to all calls for service from traffic violations to homicides and are usually the first deputies on scene. They are followed up depending on the type of call by the detectives who are responsible for more detailed investigation and follow up on serious calls against a person or property.
